The AustCham Hong Kong’s Women in Business Network (WIBN) is delighted to announce Professor Patricia Davidson, Vice Chancellor at the University of Wollongong, as our next Leadership Series speaker for 2021.

We are pleased to have the support of ADJUNCT Professor Victoria Elegant who will be moderating this discussion. This discussion will look at Professor Davidson’s experience as a leader and educator throughout the pandemic, as well as the impact her incredible work in global health care and in cardiac nursing has had on her leadership development . She will also discuss the impetus for her to return home to Australia and provide some thoughts as to how to best manage the re entry.

This is the third instalment of the WIBN Leadership Series which highlights global industry leaders in the region sharing their insight and learnings from facing challenges of gender parity, promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace, and advancing women leaders.

Professor Patricia Davidson PhD, MEd, RN, FAAN
Vice Chancellor and Principal | University of Wollongong

Professor Patricia M. Davidson joined the University of Wollongong as Vice-Chancellor in May 2021. Prior to her current role, Professor Davidson was dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in Baltimore in the United States. In 2021 she was the recipient of the Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Distinguished Leader Award. This honour celebrates her exceptional contributions to the advancement of global health worldwide.


As a global leader in nursing, health care, and advocacy, Professor Davidson’s work focuses on person-centred care delivery and the improvement of cardiovascular health outcomes for women and vulnerable populations. She has extensively studied chronic conditions, transitional care, palliative care, and the translation of innovative, acceptable, and sustainable health initiatives across the world.


Professor Davidson serves as counsel general of the International Council on Women’s Health Issues, and was a past board member of CUGH and secretary general of the Secretariat of the World Health Organizations Collaborating Centres for Nursing and Midwifery. She also serves on the Board of Health Care Services for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine in the United States.



Professor Victoria Elegant
Vice President, Region Medical Head | Amgen

Professor Victoria Elegant is based in Hong Kong for Amgen and is Vice-President, JAPAC Regional Medical Head, and Site Head, China Research Site, Shanghai. Prior to Amgen, Prof Elegant was the Vice-President, Regulatory and Medical Affairs, APAC, based in Shanghai for 10 years for Baxter, and Vice President, Medical Affairs, Asia for Baxalta. 


Professor Elegant is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine UK (FPM), member of the FPM International Committee, and is an Adjunct Professor, Faculty of Medicine and member of the Board of Studies for the Masters in Pharmaceutical Medicine at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. 


Professor Elegant has published and spoken extensively on regulatory affairs, medical affairs and clinical development in the Asia Pacific region and is President of the Asia Pacific chapter of the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS). She is on the biotech advisory board to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.


Professor Elegant holds a medical degree from the University of London and is passionate about improving standards of care and outcomes for patients in Asia. She is also involved in initiatives to support women in leadership.
