Australia’s Response to Climate Change

Towards a Sustainable Future Series – Sponsored by CLP

As global discussions on climate change heat up, hear from leading sustainability experts on the development of climate policy in Australia, ahead of announcements in the forthcoming Australian Federal Budget 2021-22.

  • Andrew Petersen, Chief Executive Officer, Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia
  • David Simmonds, Group General Counsel & Chief Administrative Officer, Company Secretary, CLP Holdings

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has pre-empted the Budget and the US climate summit with announcements on investment in low-emissions technologies, while confirming a stance on emissions reduction targets in the key export industries of agriculture and resources.

With Australia’s top trading partners committed to net zero carbon emissions by 2050 or 2060, and heightened messaging from Europe and the US on tariffs for countries without carbon tax regimes, what are the possible consequences of this policy stance for Australian businesses and investors?

Join us for a robust discussion on action taken at Federal Government, sub-national, and business levels for a comprehensive overview of progress against climate change, further actions which need to be taken and opportunities that are being created.

This session marks the final event in our five-part Towards a Sustainable Future Series sponsored by CLP, which has addressed concerns felt by companies around the world about the impacts of climate change. The series has hosted key business leaders in energy, asset management, transport, construction, infrastructure and property to discuss corporate purpose, ESG principles, and the steps businesses and governments must take in pushing towards a sustainable future.
