Darren Bowdern - Moderator
Head of Financial Services, Tax | KPMG in China

Darren is a partner in KPMG’s Hong Kong Tax practice. He has more than 20 years’ experience serving institutions in the healthcare, insurance, private equity and financial services sectors in Hong Kong.

Darren has been involved in developing appropriate structures for investing in the Asia Pacific region, conducting tax and financial due diligence reviews in connection with M&A transactions, and advising on cross-border transactions. Many of these projects comprise tax effective regional planning, including the consideration of direct and indirect taxes, capital and stamp duties, withholding taxes, and the effective use of double taxation agreements. 

He also advises clients in a wide range of industries on establishing direct investment, private equity and other investment funds in Hong Kong.


Lucy Zheng - Panelist

Lucy is a member of the AustCham Financial Legal & Tax Committee.

She commenced her career in financial services over 20 years ago in Sydney, and has extensive experience in banking, superannuation and financial planning.

Since arriving in Hong Kong in 2010, Lucy has specialised in helping expats maximise their time abroad through effective wealth accumulation, tax planning, and repatriation planning.

In order to advise from an unbiased position, Lucy obtained SFC, CIB and MPF licenses in Hong Kong, whilst remaining as an Authorised Representative of an independent AFSL regulated by ASIC in Australia.


Anthony Burling - Panelist

Anthony has decades of experience dealing with Australian Taxation and business laws and regulations. He is a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Tax institute Australia. Specialising in international business, individuals and SME’s he rose to partner at his Sydney CBD firm before moving to Hong Kong in 2010 where he set up the imaginatively named Burling Consulting.

Since then he has put his knowledge and imagination to better use helping Australian locals, businesses and expats based around the world to navigate the labyrinth of Australia’s laws and regulations that, no matter how far you have travelled, you rarely escape from.
