AustCham Advisory Council
The AustCham Advisory Council brings together some of the most eminent and influential members of the Hong Kong and Macau business community. Its purpose is to help guide the Chamber’s strategic development and enhance its engagement and profile with the broader business community in Hong Kong, including how to better advocate and promote the Chamber’s interests within the community and to the Hong Kong government. The Chamber would like to thank the following founding members of the council for their kind acceptance of this important role:
Ms Michaela Browning
Consul-General, Australian Consulate-General
Michaela Browning is Australia’s Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macau. She is an experienced diplomat with over 20 years of international policy experience, including on trade negotiations, North, East and South East Asia, and on counter terrorism. Her last appointment was Head of Investment at Austrade. She has also worked as an Senior Adviser to Australia’s foreign affairs and defence ministers. Ms Browning has previously been posted to Singapore and Thailand.
Ms Anita Fung, BBS, JP
Director, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited
Anita is a Director of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and a Board Member of the Hong Kong Airport Authority and the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority. She has held a number of positions with key financial bodies in Hong Kong. She was also a member of the Financial Infrastructure Sub-Committee of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA).
Mr Herman, Shao-ming Hu, SBS, JP
Chairman, Ryoden Development Limited
Herman is the Chairman of Ryoden Development Limited, a property development and direct investment group in Hong Kong and China. He is currently Hong Kong Deputy of the 12th National People’s Congress, and also serves on numerous boards and advisory councils.
Mr HL Kam
Group Managing Director, Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Ltd
Mr Kam is the founding Group Managing Director of Cheung Kong Infrastructure Holdings Limited. He is also the founding President and CEO of CK Life Sciences Int’l (Holdings) Inc., and the Deputy Managing Director of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited. All of these companies are substantial investors in Australia, with portfolios in Energy Infrastructure, Life Sciences, Eco-Agriculture, Telecommunications, and Ports. Mr Kam is also the Deputy Managing Director of Cheung Kong Property Holdings Limited, and the founding Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Hui Xian Asset Management Limited, which manages Hui Xian Real Estate Investment Trust.
Ms Sophia Kao, GBS, SBS, JP
Director of Belt and Road Hong Kong Centre and Bay Area Hong Kong Centre
Sophia was previously a Member of the Central Policy Unit of the Government of the Hong Kong SAR, Founding Chair of the Financial Reporting Council and Chair of the Women’s Commission. After a 25-year career in corporate human resources management, she became fully engaged in public and community service, particularly in advancing the status and interests of women.
A recipient of the Silver Bauhinia Star in 2009 and Gold Bauhinia Star in 2017, Sophia has also been awarded honorary doctorate and university fellowships, and is currently a a Vice Chairperson of the Hong Kong Federation of Women and a Director of Belt and Road Hong Kong Centre and Bay Area Hong Kong Centre.
Mr Edward, Wai Tak Kwok
Managing Director of LPD Holdings Australia Ltd.
Edward is the Chairman of Australia China Metal Corporation PTY Limited, a Managing Director of LPD Holdings (Aust) PTY Limited and the founder of Nobleseed Financial Group Limited. He is the Vice President of HK-ASEAN and Co-Chairman of China Affairs Task Force committee of HK-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation (HKAECF). He is also Honorary Ambassador to the City of Brisbane and the Honorary President of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Australia.
Mr Richard Lancaster
Chief Executive Officer, CLP Holdings Limited
Richard is Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings. Since joining CLP in 1992, he has held a variety of managerial positions including Managing Director of CLP Power, responsible for the company’s electricity generation, transmission and distribution business and service to its 5.9 million people in Hong Kong. Mr Lancaster’s experience in the Company covers project management, power plant operations, commercial, finance, legal and corporate functions. Born in Sydney, Mr. Lancaster spent his early career as a professional engineer in the electricity supply industry in Australia and later with an international brewing company in the UK.
Dr Joseph Lee, GBS, OStJ, JP
Chairman, Wofoo Plastics & Chemicals Group
Dr. Lee is a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist. He has been making outstanding contributions towards advancing the development of education, public and community services over the years. In 1991, he received the Young Industrialist Award from the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. He was commended by the HKSAR Government with a Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2000 and appointed Justice of the Peace in 2003. He was further awarded a Silver Bauhinia Star, Gold Bauhinia Star and Officer of the Order of Saint John respectively in 2008, 2013 and 2015.
Dr David K P Li, GBM, GBS, JP
Chairman and Chief Executive, The Bank of East Asia
David is the Chairman and Chief Executive of The Bank of East Asia. He has played a significant role in the development of Hong Kong’s financial infrastructure for over 40 years and represented the Finance Constituency in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong from 1985 to 2012. He is also currently the Pro-Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong.
Prof. Cliff Sun, BBS, JP
Chairman, Kinox Enterprises Ltd.
Prof. Sun is Chairman of Kinox Enterprises Ltd and Kin Hip Metal and Plastic Factory Ltd. Prof. Sun possesses some 35 years of management experience in the business of wholesale distribution and manufacturing of kitchenware and other metal and plastic products. He has served as the chairman of the Hong Kong Exporters' Association from 2002 to 2006 and the chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries from 2009 to 2011. At present, Prof. Sun is the honorary chairman of many business and industry associations, and is influential in both business and political sectors.
